The KIA Optima is a mid-range sedan from the South Korean automaker Kia Motors, production of which began in 2000. Sales around the world occur under different names. The first generation was often referred to as the Kia Optima, but in Europe and Canada, where sales began in 2002, the car was called the Kia Magentis. In the second generation on the market of South Korea, the car was named Kia Lotze and Kia K5, and the global name was Magentis, except the U.S. and Malaysia, where the name Optima was retained. Starting with the third generation, the production of which began in 2010, the car received a global designation Kia Optima, except for markets in South Korea, China and Indonesia, where the name K5 was retained, as well as in Malaysia, where the car was named Optima K5. It is based on the same platform as the Hyundai Sonata and is the successor to the Kia Clarus.
