The Toyota Avalon isa full-size car produced by Toyota since 1995. Manufactured at Toyota's U.S. plant, it is the company's flagship sedan in the U.S., Canada and the Middle East. Until July 2005, the car was also sold on the Australian market, but in November 2006 it was replaced by the Toyota Aurion. The Toyota Avalon first appeared in Georgetown[en] (Kentucky) on February 21, 1994 as a 1995 model year car. The second generation model was introduced in the United States and Japan in 1999. In 2000, the car began to be equipped with a navigation system with touchscreen control.
The Avalon filled the gap in Toyota's lineup that was created when the Toyota Cressida was discontinued in the U.S. market in 1992. Although the Cressida was a rear-wheel drive car, the Avalon was a front-wheel drive car with a V6 engine.
